The sensational news of a mother finding her child after 16 years after he went missing since the Tsunami catastrophe, now appears to be one staged by a woman in Sammanthurai, as revealed by Nurul Ishan Junaideen a woman who has now come forward stating that she is the real mother of the child in a complaint lodged with the Sammanthurai Police today.

The news of a woman who had earlier claimed that her son who went missing during the Tsunami had arrived at her home went viral in print and electronic media which created much curiosity and led to the real mother of the child complaining to the police.

The real mother had submitted to the police all records pertaining to her child, whereas the woman who posed off as the mother failed to produce any of these vital documents.

Nurul Ishan Junaideen in her complaint to the police has stated that this child was born to her at the Ampara Hospital on the 19/04/2001 and she had attended all the clinics that were conducted by the Family Health Officer. She brought up this child with difficulty as her husband had abandoned her. The child was admitted to the Saddhatissa Maha Vidyalaya in Ampara. She had married again and moved to Hambantota where the child was admitted to Tzu Chi National School. As the child was ill-treated by her second husband she had come back to Ampara.

She said that the wide publicity given by all media had put her and her son into a situation creating much inconvenience and urged the authorities to take suitable action to establish the truth.(Wasantha Chandrapala)
