Colombo, January 2 (Daily Mirror) - Responding to rumors of possible life threats to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka stated that no one is foolish enough to kill him using drones.

Speaking to the media, Fonseka said that drones are expensive equipment, adding that no one is willing and able to attack him using drones.

"Even during the height of the war, Mahinda was not under threat. The LTTE never attempted to assassinate him.

"I would like to recall how my military security was completely withdrawn by Mahinda soon after his election victory in 2010. Wasn’t I under threat at that time?" he questioned.

Fonseka also said that during his time in prison, he was placed alongside inmates who were members of the LTTE, without receiving any special security measures.

"While serving my sentence, I appeared in court seated on the same bench as the terrorist who accompanied the suicide bomber that attempted to take my life," Fonseka shared.

Fonseka's statement is aimed at the ex-politicians' complaint about the reduction in their security protection by the army and police! As is usually the case, he is right here too and the comparison with his situation after the war, when Rajapaksa withdrew his protection, says everything about the thinking of the former president and his egomania!!! Mr Fonseka is a nice person. AKD is also a nice person and both fit for presidency. We saw handful of people attending Mr Fonseka's election meetings. RW was voted out, he was able to bring Sri Lanka back from Anarchy and spiraling inflation with the help of CB governor and Financial Ministry officials. When there are a lot of mee-harak in the country, the outcomes are skewed as well in an election.The truth is bitter, and never recognised in this country.

Mahinda may be at risk of harm from his own extended family. Anyway Mahinda did nor ask for additional security. Only others have asked so on his behalf. Mahinda is capable of demanding more security from the government and through the court. The fact that he didn't proves there's no threat. Politics as usual.

Very logical explanation. People didn't reject him because he was corrupt or incompetent or anything similar but because people didn't believe he is skillful enough to become the president of Sri Lanka however, he could make a good contribution to a ruling government as a consultant. At the same time, I have heard that he is a bit arrogant and difficult to work with. In the army, he did great job as he was holding the top job and he had the skills, experience and the foundation knowledge to do the job.
