Colombo, August 11 (Daily Mirror) - United Republican Front (URF) leader MP Patali Champika Ranawaka said that no room should be left for the fate that befell Bangladesh to befall Sri Lanka, no matter what.
Making his remarks at a public meeting, he said Bangladesh is heading towards destabilization, further reversing its economic momentum.
He said Sri Lanka would have ended up as a country like Bangladesh today had the Aragalaya activists laid siege to Parliament and ransacked the building.

Why don’t you corrupt parliamentarians maintain law and order instead of Turing into criminals and looting the country? Srilankans have turned into beggars by consecutive governments.

@ CR In that case you and your mango friends should rehabilitate yourselves to abandon corruption at every level and have timely elections . Otherwise this type of uprising cannot be prevented.

It was a total failure of intelligence units. It is high time for SL too to invest and use modern technique to make sure such uprising will not happen here. Only elections should be used to change governments not this kind of process. BNG will end up in the hand of extremists soon if it continues like this.

What kind of world are you living. You mean to allow Gota to ruin the country further more until 2024 elections? If there is no Aragalaya Gota would be still hanging on it and bankrupt the country to the point where we will not be able to recover for next few decades. If there is no Aragalaya, do you think that people will bring rajapaksha's to this down who was once considered as saviour. Actually, it was started peacefully but government inserted some propagandist inside it and then attacked it using things which became a little violent. Other than that, although none of the goals are achieved, chasing Gota is a victory for the country which higher class will not understand who didn't suffer from any hardship.

Aragalaya achieved its objective. So just keep your trap shut. Bangladesh people taught a very good lesson to the regime. Whether you allow or not, it will come up, if the politicians think they can do anything they want.

"Nobel Peace Prize" winner doesn't mean he is KNOW-ALL in Governance for Bangladesh (BND)!!?? May not be knowledgeable in that sphere??? Furthermore, it wasn't universal selection by all 225 Million Bangladeshis, but by a part of them, the PROTESTORS only!!!??? The same problem SL had experienced 11/2019 TO 06/2022 and BAD outcome (The GREAT WARRIOR elected popularly with 6.9 million voters, admittedly INEPT GOVERNANCE) being replicated, NOW in BND, who may not be able to sustain LONG ENOUGH, as an opposing group may rise THIS selected person may fade away!!!??? WORSE part they REMOVED Chief Justice (JRJ - 1979), CB Governor - people of experience, who made country move forward economically, financially in the world!!?? Nothing but DENTED thinking of malefic Intelligence or ‘STUDIOUS IGNORANCE’ or BOTH at PLAY!!?? MOVING – UNCHARTERED WATERS!?

Actually SL is similar, a genuine people’s struggle was taken over by terrorists (now contesting for presidency under different symbol) we are lucky the right person took over at the right time, else all hell would have broken loose! But our people are very uneducated and immature (especially the learned middle class floaters) they will do the same mistake they made in November 2019!

WHEN PEOPLE HAVE NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE TO HAVE THEIR VOICES HEARD, THEY RISE UP IN PROTEST. Monday, 12 August 2024 01:05 AM
DEE, YOUR COMMENTS ARE ALWAYS SPAT OUT WHEN IN A TRANCE. PROTESTS ARE LEGAL IN MAJORITY OF COUNTRIES AROUND THE WROLD (IF NOT ALL). AT TIMES PEOPLES POWER HAS TO RISE WHEN GOVTS DO NOT HEAR THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE AND GOVERN FOR THEMSELVES, THEIR FAMILIES AND STOOGES. SOME GOOD ALWAYS COMES OUT OF A BAD SITUATION. PEOPLE HAVE COME TO THE POINT WHERE THEY DO NOT CARE WHO GOVERNS AS LONG AT THE PRESENT LOT GET WIPED OUT AND THE PEOPLE GET THE JUSTICE THEY WELL SESERVE.

Aragalaya activists were instigated by a major leftist political party with a history of aragalayas before they entered the political stream and they again wanted to experiment it with students taking the lead and they wanted to capture power thru undemocratic means resulting in chaos and the situation in Bangladesh is a culmination of undemocratic actions of the ruling party suppressing dissent, jailing opposition figures, appeasing to the military which ultimately led the Taleban taking advantage of the situation thru a local political party and the two situations are poles apart.

True. It is like cutting the nose to spite the face. This kind of self inflicted destabilization should never happen in SL. I don't care what anyone says. Nothing justifies such anti-government actions. In the long run the poor and middle class suffer the most and for a much longer time.

It struck me that parliamentarians never go on strike have aragalayas etc what is the reason for that?Is it because they are in highly privileged positions where their needs are met?

“Need of the hour for Sri Lanka: The ‘MPH’ Formula of Singapore”. It is really interesting and fascinating to analyze the factors of Meritocracy, Pragmatism and Honesty (MPH) and we will see how Sri Lanka can implement this in our context. We should read this MPH which is introduced by Dr. Goh Keng Swee (architect of Singapore’s economic miracle) and S. Rajaratnam (Singapore’s philosopher par excellence). If all the politicians of Srilanka agree to comply with 'MPH' formula, our politicians don't have to fear of another Aragalaya.

You are living with your head struck in the clouds, unless you are one of those shameless ones, who benefited from Gota and his corrupt rule. Even Mahindanada has come out the camp when he found the he will be left high and fry. Anyway there is a saying in Tamil that there are 10 people behind every rich guy and 10 people behind every mad guy.

Srilanka wants a system change It was a desperate and last attempt by the peoples of Srilanka to overthrough the government in a relatively peaceful manner. Then government forces infiltrated the crowd and spoilt the matter. Go again to Kaddubetha and learn start from scratch

It won't happen in Sri Lanka because the only people who have "reserved employment" are the good-for-nothing Ministers like Ranawaka and 251 others. After all, the President has already given words of comfort to two of them. More will follow.

Unlike Sri Lanka, Bangladesh has been doing well economically. Corruption is there but not at the scale of Rajalaksas i.e. US$50,0 billion. The problem with Bangladesh was the dictatorship of Sheik Hasina so now she is gone and a Nobel Laureate has been appointed an interim Prime Minister. In Sri Lanka whoever comes to power will be corrupt and dictatorial. So Bangladesh was better off than Sri Lanka and now is better off than Sri Lanka after the overthrow of Sheik Hasina's Government.

We condemn outright PCR opportunist BS. If he and his parliamentary worthies ran the country well, even with C-19 we would have survived better like most other Asian countries did. The deadly blow of Good Friday terrorism added fuel to the fire of already ailing economy. All these pieces of misrule, and mismanagement coupled with rampant corruption particularly since 1977 forced the people on to the streets. This is the truth which PCR now cleverly shuns to justify his joining the very same corrupt lot including the key economic assasins! Good luck PCR on your journey to the dustbin of history!!

SL politicians should be problem solvers but newspapers give so much importance to everything they say regardless of content that they are not pushed into making a serious contribution. Maybe it is also a sign there is no freedom of the press

PLENTY OF FREEDOM IN THIS NEWSPAPER, MOST OF MY COMMENTS ARE NOT EVEN POSTED AND BELIEVE ME, NON OF MY COMMENTS LEFT UNPOSTED HAVE OBSCENE LANUGAGE AND ANTHING THAT HAS TO BE EDITED, OTHER THAN FACT GIVING ME THE OPINION THAT THE PEOPLE NEED A COMPLETE CHANCE OF GOVT. IT IS EVIDENT THAT RANIL IS CALLING THE SHOTS JUST A THE RAJAPASKE'S DID FOR DECADES. SAW A PENSIONERS SALARY RISE AT THE 9TH HR ARTICLE IN THIS PAPER, WHICH THE E.C. SAID WOULD START FROM OCTOBER. ANOTHER ELECTION SPIN WHICH IS DEFINITELY SEEN AS A BRIBE FOR VOTES. THEN WE HAVE THE VISA FIASCO AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST ALLES SAYING THE ENTIRE IMMIGRATION DEPT IS UNDERGOING A OVERHAUL!!!. MORE SPINS TO COME, CONFUSION AND POSIBLE DISRUPTION BY GOVT FOR A EXCUSE TO POSTPONE AND OR CANCEL PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION BY MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR RANIL TO RUN ANOTHER YEAR.

Both Sri Lanka and Bangaladesh are wasting money on General or Presidential elections.in both situations , A vast majority of people elect a leader and then a minority of people creates a violent campaign to outst the elected leader. Then they appoint someone to rule the country. So then what is the purpose of spending billions of public money for these elections and also the corruption is mainly because whoever who get elected has to recover the money spent on the campaign and also secure money for the next campaign. In countries like UAE, this kind of bullshit is not there and the country is well developed and people live happily.

If AKD looses the upcoming election which is more likely, a similar situation like Bangaladesh is likely to happen here too as these AKD guys want the power this time.
