None of the rivers have reached flood levels



Colombo, May 20 (Daily Mirror)  - None of the rivers have reached flood level so far due to the heavy rains yesterday, according to the data collected by the Irrigation Department, Irrigation (Hydrology) Director Eng. S.P.C. Sugeeshwara Bandara said.

However, the water levels of certain rivers in the Western and North-Western Provinces, and the Galle and Matara districts have risen to a considerable level.

Attanagalu Oya, Kelani Ganga, Kalu Ganga, Ging Ganga and Nilwala Ganga have recorded a higher water level. There are possibilities of floods if rainfall continues in the catchment areas of these rivers during the next few days.

The people living in the low-lying areas along these rivers are advised to be vigilant for possible floods, the Irrigation Department said.
 
According to the Meteorological Department, the heavy rains in the country has not reduced yet.

Also, motorists are advised to be vigilant when using the roads close to these rivers.
