Parliament, December 05 (Daily Mirror)- The Government should obtain Parliamentary approval for the debt sustainability agreement with international sovereign bond (ISB) holders before implementing it, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Kabir Hashim told Parliament today.

Speaking during the debate on the vote on account in the House today, MP Hashim said MPs should know the details on the debt sustainability agreement.

"We would like to know whether you are continuing with the agreement reached by the previous government or whether you have gone into a new agreement,” he said.

He also said more than Rs. 3 billion has been allocated for debt sustainability while a further Rs. 3 billion has been allocated as fees for legal consultancy connected with the debt restructuring programme.

Why are you requesting for a parliamentary approval? Since the government has 2/3 majority, if you guys approve or not, that get approved. Just wasting time talking, useless fellows.

There are some procedures for these things to follow. This is not Anura’s grandfather or grandmothers company to do what they want even it be 2/3 or 4/5 majority.

Height of stupidity. Once tabled in Parliament the public has the right to know. Just because the government has a 2/3 majority doesn't mean they can do as they please.

7 M starving people in SL as during Ranil. What did the government do good for them other than reducing fuel with negligible amounts though promised to reduce the fuel prices after removing commissions and the diesel price to Rs. 150/= ? They promised to cancel all unsolicited contracts including Trincomalee oil tanks agreement and Adhani projects. In addition, to amend the IMF agreement and remove taxes particularly on essential items and to revise the Ranil agreed debt restructuring. Blast the rice mafia. All was to be done in a short time with the executive powers. But, nothing has been done and no difference to Ranil's time. The Ranil advanced repayment process which was to be started from 2028, not changed though the IMF wanted to start from 2033. As they failed, they have started to threaten the media like the Rajapaksha era. Talks only. No Action. Just compare the 100 day programme of the good governance for being aware of actions rather than talks.
