Online Safety Bill will drive away Facebook, Google, Instagram from SL: Harsha

The Online Safety Bill which was gazetted last night is a draconian piece of legislation that will drive international IT giants such as Facebook, Google and Instagram away from Sri Lanka, SJB MP Harsha de Silva informed the House today.

“As per this gazette, the President is to appoint a commission to determine what is the truth and what is not the truth. This violates the freedom of speech and freedom of thought. You will never get investors if this law is enacted and implemented,” the MP said.

“Do you think companies such as Google, Facebook or Instagram will welcome this law?" the MP questioned. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

Don't worry he is trying to be in power forever by bringing in various draconian laws like his uncle. But peoples power and freedom of speech is by the constitution. No one can stop the people's power.

I don't think this is the truth. Facebook will have and other forums will have to provide details of users, so they should be concerned. The truth commission will eradicate all view points contrary to government and religious leaders, and Google and Facebook are both exponents of free expression (unless it is against Covid-19 vaccines).
