Colombo, August 15 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that the people are badly in need of a change, NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today the National People's Power (NPP) is the only camp capable of making that change.
After submitting nominations he told the media that the country and its people have faced immense hardships for years even though so many elections have been held in the past.
"We can win this election. The country and its people have faced immense hardships over the years. People are badly in need of changing this situation. We can turn this election to rescue people and the country from hardships. The NPP and its candidate are the only camp to do that change," he said.

No doubt, all Sri Lankans need a change, you are yet to govern this country, let's see how the masses would decide intelligently.

They ruled the country with Chandrika and AKD as the agriculture minister without any tangible action. They talk only with bogus facts.

Doing what "What people want" is a delusional and unscientific way to progress a country. What if the people say that they don't want to work but want a fixed income? Government's job is to enable wealth creation so individuals will create wealth for themselves. These marxists never get it.

Sorry to break the bad news to you. Democracy and Marxism can't ever go hand in hand. You have to pick one comrade.

My wife underwent a surgery in a hospital last week and she came to know the lady surgeon was a NPP supporter. She is a nice, courteous and dedicated doctor. My wife was a traditional party supporter. After being discharged from the hospital, my wife too has become a NPP supporter. My wife has been telling her friends too. A good mouth to mouth publicity for NPP

AKD Is 200% right in his claim. why is it? firstly, the past experience tells us that.. 75 years of political failure is enough to suggest this. We have natural and human resources to develop this country and yet, we have failed. who failed this nation? Who did this to this country. Is it people. It is military leadership? is it academics? is it civil servants? all indications are all previous governments have failed to develop this country. Why not we see how NPP under AKD do politics. only 5 years will put them on the test.. Why not give them a chance to see them doing politics. It is only for 5 years to see them. if you do not like after that, you can choose who you want...

6.9 M people tested and we altogether suffer. No more tests, please. NPP / JVP too responsible as ministers with Chandrika and canvassing for Mahinda in 2005 after Mahinda's swindling of Helping Hambanthota. They destroyed the public properties in 1971 and 1988-1990, too.

5 years is too long for a test as much damage can result. Gota did it 2 years. So NPP is best as opposition with AKD Opp Leader. SJB has got what it takes to govern and many capable in the wings. They have promised to punish the corrupt. So on a balance of probabilities I think SJB could be a better choice that most.

This JVP/NPP did not come from outer space. They have been part and parcel of this 75 year journey, without contributing anything other than their disruptive strikes and demand for free bees and tax reduction and free education and against anything private

I do not believe in the change that Anura Kumara is promising people! Neither in economic policy, where investments will fail to materialize, nor in debt reduction and certainly not in the fight against corruption, will Anura and his NPP be able to report a victory in the near future!!! Furthermore, I doubt his fundamental leadership skills as President of the country! In view of the massive rejection of the Ranil-Rajapaksa pact and the desolate state of the economy, he undoubtedly has the ability to mobilize people who are fixated on change, but that alone will not be nearly enough to eliminate the basic structures of the social system that are opposed to change! What does his team look like? What are the names of the specialists and experts in radical change, who will be the members of his cabinet!? We would like to know more now!!!

He is right that he is the only candidate who will bring about political change. In any case, he has credibly promised to curb corruption and put criminal politicians behind bars. Otherwise, he is probably the least evil of the four main candidates and the best of the worst. Like all the other main candidates, he only has visions of how to manage the economy and no concrete plan.

With files containing photocopies? Ridiculous! Who got the delivery of sentence over the bankruptcy of SL? They were unable to do anything even to get a case filed as such as to convict Rajapakshas'. Talks only with no action even in the case of VFS matter they were dumb and deaf. Hilarious indeed about their ability.

In fact of all the Presidents MR really did a good job by ending the war but unfortunately he became very greedy...and R. Pramadasa did an excellent job by helping the poor but sadly he became a butcher...at the moment ppl are really suffering from high cost of living I bet you'll guys cannot reduce it because if IMF, seriously what package do you'll have in-store?

Tissa Fernando Thursday, 15 August 2024 05:31 PM
Absolutely no package, they will take it from the middle and rich class and give to poor and ruling class. After 2 years you will see ultra rich ruling class and the rest are working class. Anyone opposing them will end up in village courts.

You can only punish the corrupt, robbers, bring back monies deposited in foreign banks overseas robbed from Sri Lanka to pay back IMF loans without taxing the citizens.

In short; (i) Collecting 500 US $ each from Sri Lankan's who have migrated or abroad. (ii) Printing money (SL) resulting in inflation (iii) Sell whatever available (iv) Take over all the Fixed deposits of Sri Lankans. (v) Devolution of Judicial power to their cadres, like in 1988-90.

You were given an opportunity as the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock and we never seen an improvement in this area, the only thing that you did was obtain funds from the companies promoting tobacco. The presidential job has manifold aspects that should be looked into not just one area like agriculture which had no exemplary results and also the team you around you do not have the competencies in the running of the country. Last evening one of your NPP members who did not know head or tail in providing solutions when a media official questioned the answer was we only deal by a step by step process. That shows your team is mediocre and needs lot of experience in different fields. The public does not require novices but veterans who could take this country out of the mess we have fallen into due to politicians of the past.

Sorry to say this and i'm not a Colombo liberal-You're not fit enough to run a country. Soon after the election, please go to Sarath Sir for a English lesson. It's very important that you'll have to go abroad with begging bowl. No Sajith's Oxford English which no one unterstand. Btw, how good is your Tamil, the second language of Sri Lanka? Take my advice mate.

Anura Saho should not change for the sake of change. Gota won the election by promising 6% Income Tax lower rate and 18% high rate. So he won. A lot of things in this country should not be changed if we are to develop. Voters (People) should stop GIVING bribes then the Politicians cannot TAKE bribes. Its as easy as that. A govt can reduce the interest rates for businesses to obtain loans and start industries. Once that is done the private sector must take the RISK and invest. If they want the Govt to protect them as well by restricting imports etc once again akin to printing money our industries wont be playing in a sustainable market.

Bangaladesh with a population of 170 million and under Hasina, 1 US $ was = 15.50 rupees, as against in Sri Lanka 1 U.S.$ = 338 LKR, this indicates Sri Lanka is the worst economy in Asia, ADK should uplift the economy, siphoned monies banked in overseas countries, should be brought back to Sri Lanka, perpetrators' assets, movable and immovable should be taken over by the state for causing Sri Lanka's economic melt down. This is the change we anticipate.

Vote to a candidate who promises to bring back the monies siphoned by politicians, high officials, business men, exporters who didn't remit the sales proceeds to Sri Lanka, but deposited in foreign banks, this modus operandi is one of the main reasons for Sri Lanka to be bankrupt, in US $ 1 = 338 LKR, Bangaladesh has a high economy 1 US$ = 15.50 rupees, voters please awake from your seelp, time to use this only and last opportunity.
