Colombo, Oct 10 (Daily Mirror) - While clarifying reports circulating about postal stamps featuring Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Minister Vijitha Herath in celebration of the 150th World Postal Day, the Postal Department said that only personalised stamps have been issued with their images.
The department said two personalised souvenirs, including stamps with the images of Harini Amarasuriya and Vijitha Herath, were presented to them as chief guests of the event.
These personalised stamps fall under the commemorative stamp category and are intended solely as souvenirs.
The Department said these stamps are not official postage stamps and will not be used for mailing purposes.
As a part of tradition, the department provides such personalised stamps as keepsakes on special occasions.
The department also highlighted that personalised stamps can be created by anyone using their choice of images, but they are not part of the official postal services.
They said to mark the 150th Postal Day, two official stamps were issued for World Postal Day 2024, based on designs from the Universal Postal Union and these stamps will be used by all member countries.
