Colombo, November 13 (Daily Mirror) - There is a possibility of thundershowers exceeding 100 mm tomorrow after 2 p.m, Deputy Director of the Meteorology Department, Meril Mendis said.
He noted that the parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held tomorrow and advised the people to go to the polling stations before the rains.
“With the low-pressure area forming over the south-west Bay of Bengal, heavy showers of 100 mm are likely in some areas of the Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern Provinces, as well as in the Kalutara district,” he said.
Due to the influence of this low-pressure area, atmospheric conditions are favourable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of the island today and over the next few days, he added.
Several spells of showers are expected in the Northern Province, while showers or thundershowers are likely to occur in other areas during the evening or night.
Misty conditions can be expected in the morning in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
