Around 42,000 patients had obtained emergency treatment at the Badulla Teaching Hospital and 6,700 of them were victims of cat and dog bite victims, an official said today.
Chief Medical Officer of the Emergency Treatment Unit and Secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association Dr. Palitha Rajapakse stressed the need to vaccinate pet dogs and cats against rabies at regular intervals to avoid any possible danger from them.
He said several young men and women and school children are admitted almost every day to the Emergency Treatment Unit.
Quite often individuals complaining of giddiness, panting, chest pain, benumbed limbs, palpitation, tiredness, excessive sweating, dry mouth, and sheepishness are provided treatment at the emergency treatment unit.
Generally, this is identified as a state of panic attack, and it is imperative that they obtain treatment.
Dr.Rajapakse said he was pleased that the emergency treatment unit with a minimum staff of a Specialist Medical Officer, 10 doctors, 31 nursing officers and 17 other employees has been performing an excellent service.
