PC promoted posthumously after drowning in pursuit



Colombo (Daily Mirror) - The police constable who drowned while attempting to apprehend a suspect in Ja Ela has been honored with a posthumous promotion.

According to Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa, Police Constable Krishnamoorthi Prathapan, aged 26, has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

The incident occurred on 23 November when a group of police officers were pursuing a suspect who had jumped into a canal in an effort to escape arrest.

Constable Prathapan was reported missing after he also jumped into the canal.

Eyewitnesses stated that four officers had entered the water, but Constable Prathapan did not resurface. Subsequently, his body was recovered the following day in the lagoon area of Pamunugama, Negombo.

In recognition of his dedication and sacrifice, Constable Prathapan has been posthumously promoted.
