PC promoted posthumously after drowning in pursuit

Colombo (Daily Mirror) - The police constable who drowned while attempting to apprehend a suspect in Ja Ela has been honored with a posthumous promotion.

According to Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa, Police Constable Krishnamoorthi Prathapan, aged 26, has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

The incident occurred on 23 November when a group of police officers were pursuing a suspect who had jumped into a canal in an effort to escape arrest.

Constable Prathapan was reported missing after he also jumped into the canal.

Eyewitnesses stated that four officers had entered the water, but Constable Prathapan did not resurface. Subsequently, his body was recovered the following day in the lagoon area of Pamunugama, Negombo.

In recognition of his dedication and sacrifice, Constable Prathapan has been posthumously promoted.

In reality in most of the countries I had not heard a serviceman posthumously promoted.His service needs a similar sacrifice of this nature and not appreciated because he is paid for this with all perks when he is living and that is what is called a serviceman in those countries.but a PC in an european country his service his really valued by the Govt. And if he loses his life by a fault of a civilian this civilian can get a life sentence in jail no interference possible to safeguard the civilian.may be only in Sri Lanka we appreciate his service after death and posthumously promote him and surely his pension is increased and his wife benefits. Deepest sympathy to be conveyed to his wife a husband is lost may be in her young age.

He is debt free to the nation. Their parents should also be felicitated admiring their son’s ultimate sacrifice for sake of nation. Drug abuse disorders do not affect only on individuals, rather it affects on the community at large.
