PHI Officer acquitted from Bribery Charges



Colombo, Feb. 27 (Daily Mirror)- The Colombo High Court today acquitted a PHI officer from four charges filed by the Bribery Commission as itfailed to prove the accused's guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

The Director General of Commission to investigate Bribery and Corruption indicted the PHI officer Sanath Vijithananda while he was serving at the Tennekumbura MOH office in Kandy for soliciting and accepting a sum of Rs.10,000 as a bribe to provide his recommendation to obtain the trade license for the year of 2017.

The Manager of Blue Mountain Hotel in Hantana had made a complaint to the Bribery Commission on January 19, 2017. Delivering the judgment, Colombo High Court judge Manjula Thilakarathne observed that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against the Accused beyond reasonable doubt.

Senior Counsel Darshana Kuruppu with Counsel Dineru Bandara appeared for the Accused.
