PM absent at swearing in of new cabinet



Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa was absent at the swearing in of the new cabinet of ministers, sending strong signals that he is unhappy with the latest political decisions made at this juncture.

The Daily Mirror learns that while President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had been calling for a new cabinet with younger Ministers taking portfolios, Prime Minister Rajapaksa had been insisting for experienced senior parliamentarians to be appointed in key portfolios as the nation is in the midst of a severe economic crisis. 

Mahinda Rajapaksa's absence at the swering in ceremony which took place at the President's House in Fort today morning has further widenened the political instability in the country presently. The Prime Minister however met the new cabinet at a separate meeting at Temple Trees a short while ago. (Jamila Husain)
