PM seeks Thai help to rescue Sri Lankans in Myanmar’s cybercrime zone



Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya today requested the Thailand Government to assist the Sri Lankan government in rescuing the Sri Lankans still held in the cyber crimes area in the Myawaddy district in Myanmar.

The rescue attempts from the Myanmar cyber crimes area is facilitated by the Myanmar Government and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

This request was made following discussions between Thailand Ambassador Paitoon Mahapannaporn and the Prime Minister Amarasuriya at the Prime Minister office.

The Prime Minister expressed her gratitude for the assistance provided by the Thailand Government in rescuing 28 Sri Lankans from the cybercrime centres and requested for continued support to rescue the 40 Sri Lankans still in these centres.
