PM’s office says MR has not resigned, sources confirm new cabinet soon

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa's Office said a short while ago that Mahinda Rajapaksa had not resigned as the Prime Minister. Sources however said that it will be a new cabinet which will be sworn in, with opposition members in it.

This follows a proposal be several parties, that a new interim government must be appointed to ensure political stability.

as experts says Sri Lanka is a prime example for a two tier economy where import spending far outpace import earnings and the production of goods and services are not enough (actually the volume has declined by 40% compared to few decades ago). The two main sources of dollar income (expatriate earnings and tourism ) are unstable and have collapsed in the wake of Covid. whoever in power cannot do much (except for reducing stealing and mismanagement rampant in rajapakshe and also wickramasinghe administrations and all other administrations since 1970). The immediate solution is to reinstate the above two income sources. But longer term SL has to develop more stable and in demand foriegn income sources. The educated who have not contributed much to the economy in the 100 year history of higher education should step in asap And also people who are flushed with rupees in the present uneven economic system should stop living high middle income life styles that require lot of dollars
