PS member granted bail over defamation of MP Kottahachchi

The former Millaniya Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) member, Ravindra Nawamuni, who was arrested for sharing a post on social media insulting NPP MP Nilanthi Kottahachchi, has been granted by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Nawamuni at his residence in Batagoda this morning.

The arrest follows a complaint filed with the CID about misinformation circulating on social media about MP Kottahachchi.

Speech should never be regulated whether its false or true. What is true to someone could be false for another and vice versa. Just because the story sounds bad, it cannot said to be false.

Ms. Nilanthi Kottahahchi who is an MP, and a Lawyer publicly declared that anybody has the right to tell lies. If that is the case, why take this PS member to courts?
