Parliament greenlights VAT amendment debate today with 51-vote majority

Parliament, Dec 11 9Daily Mirror) - A resolution to take up the debate on the VAT amendment was approved in Parliament by a majority of 51 votes, with 92 members voting for and 41 against.

Some 91 members were absent while Sudarshani Fernandopulle abstained from voting.

Accordingly, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said the debate on the VAT amendment and the expenditure heads of the Ministries of Fisheries and Irrigation will take place today and that the time of the sessions is likely to be extended.

Vat increase no doubt would hit every one's budget there is neither an alternative nor any suggestion by the opposing sections to offer a solution to meet IMF commitments.

No such IMF condition but only income is there concern. By evading the taxes of friends, the government want to compensate the shortage from the non-influential public. No actions on scams on sugar, garlic, coconut oil, medicine, etc., Payment for non delivered organic fertilizer, pandora grade plundering, Greek bonds, Hedging deal, Xpress Pearl and many more.

When current lot know their time is limited to loot and get rich no opposition will give alternate solutions to ease the burden of the masses who are so dilutional to forgive a bunch and be compassionate to the notion " lets build the nation together slogan". What is missing is let give the proper punishment to thugs and looters and get together and rebuild the nation for next generation.
