Parliament greenlights VAT amendment debate today with 51-vote majority



Parliament, Dec 11 9Daily Mirror) - A resolution to take up the debate on the VAT amendment was approved in Parliament by a majority of 51 votes, with 92 members voting for and 41 against.

Some 91 members were absent while Sudarshani Fernandopulle abstained from voting.

Accordingly, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said the debate on the VAT amendment and the expenditure heads of the Ministries of Fisheries and Irrigation will take place today and that the time of the sessions is likely to be extended.
