A family member of an employee attached to Parliament has been tested COVID-19 positive and had prompted authorities not to allow outsiders into the office that provides services to MPs, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana announced today.
Speaker revealed this when SLPP MP Shan Wijelal complained that he was not allowed to enter the office this morning.
"It was decided not to allow outsiders to the office which provides services to the MPs at Pelawatte as a family member of one employee in this office was found to be COVID-19 positive," the Speaker said.
Mr. Wijelal said he was not allowed into this office situated in front of the Ministry of Education in Pelawatte. "I had to wait for some time to obtain the service I required as I was told that the Assistant Secretary-General had ordered not to allow anyone inside the office. Maybe they did not recognise me as I was wearing a face mask," the MP said. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
