Parliament to approve VAT increase tomorrow

Parliament, Dec. 9 (Daily Mirror)- Parliament is scheduled to meet tomorrow to debate the second reading of the Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill and the Finance Bill, the Communications Department of Parliament said.

This debate is scheduled to be held from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm as decided by the Committee on Parliamentary Business on November 20.

Cabinet approval was granted earlier to increase Value-Added Tax (VAT) to 18 percent from the current 15 percent with effect from January 1, 2024.

Hope Dr Harsha's recommendation would be implemented in the VAT exempting Baby food, Medical Equipments, etc But remember, the proposed VAT increase will push investors taking their business outside Sri Lanka.
