Permission not sought for LPL: Sports Minister

Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe said neither Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) nor the rights holder for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) had sought his permission before conducting this year's edition of the LPL.

The minister said that according to the Sports Law it was necessary to receive his consent before any tournament.

"I don't know how this tournament was played under previous Sports Ministers, but they have not sought my permission," the minister said.

"I wrote twice to SLC asking them to seek approval for the tournament in accordance with the provisions of the sports law, but they did not," Ranasinghe added.

"This is why I didn't go for the opening ceremony of the tournament even though I was invited. It is yet another black mark on SLC," Minister Ranasinghe said.

Maybe you don't have a proper control and no nothing about sports though you are a Sports Minister, better step down and learn from real Sportsman like Arujuna Ranatunga then later at least 15-20 years, sometimes you could be appointed as Sports Minister.

Minister is no good, he is allowing SLC according to him of completely bypassing him which is against the Sports law. What is the point of the outdated silly law if it is completely ignored. Better to repeal it or enforce it, without these pointless needless complaints by the politician.

The Lanka Premier League (LPL) is run by the dirty rich Indian Premier League (IPL) who have now taken the game even to the US and Canada. As such Sri Lanka Cricket doesn't need any permission io conduct the tournament in Sri Lanka.

It shouldn't be your approval in the first instance. The approval should be from an regulatory body. If the approval is not obtained, there should be a fine or ban of the event!
