Petition challenging RW’s eligibility for Presidential poll rejected

Colombo, August 28 - The Supreme Court rejected a petition challenging President Ranil Wickremesinghe's eligibility to run in the Presidential election, which was based on claims of failure to appoint the Acting IGP and judges to the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.

According to the President's Media Division (PMD), the petitioner has been ordered to pay Rs. 50,000 in court fees.

Further, the AG's representative, Additional Solicitor General Nerin Pulle, argued that the petition contained false information and breached Article 92 of the Constitution.
