Police Inspector arrested for allegedly soliciting Rs. 25,000 bribe



Wattala, July 4 (Daily Mirror) - A police inspector from the Mahabage Police has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption for accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000. 

The arrest follows a complaint lodged by a resident of Palliyawatta, Wattala.

According to reports, the inspector had allegedly demanded the bribe from the complainant to avoid court proceedings related to two bounced cheques. The suspect had also promised to facilitate a settlement for the bounced cheque amounts in instalments.

The arrested police inspector is to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
