Colombo, November 17 (Daily Mirror) - Four suspects, including two members of the notorious Jaffna-based 'Awa' gang were arrested in the Mattakkuliya area in connection with threatening and assault incidents.

The arrests were made after police received a tip-off from a private informant regarding a potential kidnapping.

According to police, the suspects were arrested on Mattakkuliya Road. Upon questioning, it was revealed that two of the suspects, residents of Eachchilampattai and Thopur, are affiliated with the 'Awa' gang, which is known for its criminal activities in the North East.

The other two suspects had recently arrived in Sri Lanka from Dubai and had been instructed by an individual based in Dubai to bring the 'Awa' gang members from Trincomalee to Mattakkuliya.

It was also uncovered that the two gang members had threatened the person in Dubai via TikTok.

Further investigations into their phones revealed that the two 'Awa' gang members were brought to Mattakkuliya by a woman, where later they were assaulted and the incident filmed for the video to be sent to the individual in Dubai.
