Police disperse IUSF protest in Punchi Borella

Colombo, March 6 (Daily Mirror) -Police used water cannons to disperse a group of students participating in a protest march organized by the Inter-University Students' Federation at Punchi Borella.

Two students, including the convener of the Inter-University Students' Federation Madhushan Chandrajit, have been arrested.

you can protest, but shouldn't cause any inconvenience for the public. with the present fuel prices imagine being blocked for hours with your vehicle or public transport? you can protest but the country has to move.

If these students are the future of SL, definitely no progress with this kind of mentality. They should Study hard, vote intelligently and join in well established political parties to ensure rule of law is upheld. These kind of protest are making a fool of themselves and their university as a whole.

Most do study hard. They are frustrated with the state the "Well Established" politicians have brought this country to. Whose law is to be upheld ? So far it seems that only the laws that protect politicians are upheld and others are ignored or broken outright. Under the present leadership, we are being moulded into a country that is a Western-client Banana-republic with no independence where we perform for gifts of second-hand ships and pats on the head.

These students are very happy being used by selfish political parties who want to survive and thrive. They are a burden not only to the nation, but also to their parents who suffer to provide a future for their kids.

@M Fernando- you are correct too. But they should blame their parents and their elders for being naive and keep on voting these fellas in. These protest are unproductive and affects those hard working people who needs to make ends meet. Protest but don’t inconvenience the public and waste taxpayer’s money.

If they protested in the wilds of Bintenne, with no inconvenience to anyone, where no one would know of it, what good will that do ? That's exactly what the authorities and politicians want. It was the 'convenience factor' of supplying fuel and electricity to the Colombo crowd (which made them go away back to their cars and air conditioners) followed by unprecedented violence against the remaining protesters that RW used to break the Aragalaya. And now we are all paying the price for that short-sightedness. A protest that inconveniences no one, is not a protest.

@M Fernando- these kinds of “anchovie’s” protest have been going on for many years. It will eventually be broken up in no time with tear gas and water cannons. Students might get injured or killed too. A protest with a “Aragalaya” magnitude will see results and public might join in too. If not, just a waste of time and nothing gained.
