Police launch mobile forensic laboratory to expedite crime investigations

Colombo, Dec 15 (Daily Mirror) - Acting Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Thennakoon inaugurated the introduction of a forensic mobile laboratory aimed at expediting crime investigations.

Police said the primary objective of this mobile laboratory is to enhance the services provided by the Criminal Investigation Department.

Acting IGP Tennakoon said that deploying this mobile unit to locations where serious crimes are committed in Sri Lanka will accelerate the investigative processes.

This mobile facility ensures that the services offered by the Criminal Investigation Department's main office in Colombo can be efficiently executed at the crime scene.

Tennakoon said he believes this marks the first instance of a mobile forensic laboratory operating in South Asia.

"This will positively impact crime-solving activities. The mobile forensic laboratory is expected to play a crucial role in investigating organized murders, robberies, heinous crimes, major computer offenses and financial frauds," he said.
