Police launch probe over body of young girl exhumed and stripped



Bandarawela, Jan 07 (Daily Mirror) - The Bandarawela Police have initiated an investigation into a disturbing incident where the buried body of a 25-year-old girl, Rashmika Nadishani, who had succumbed to pneumonia in Badulugasthenna, Bandarawela a few days ago, had been exhumed and found stripped naked.

Police said the body of the girl, who was a resident of Bandarawela had been found exhumed on Sunday by an individual or a group.

The seventh-day almsgiving for the deceased was scheduled for Monday and her father had visited the girl's grave on Sunday morning to find the shocking scene.

A group of family members, including the father, reported the matter to the police when they saw that someone or a group had exhumed the body and stripped it naked.

Bandarawela Police suspect that an individual or group may have exhumed and defiled the deceased's body.

Following the discovery, the Bandarawela Acting Magistrate and Criminal Investigation Officers examined the  body. Subsequently, the body was reburied at the same location, while the Bandarawela Police have launched further investigations into this incident.
