Colombo, Jan 24 (Daily Mirror) - Police have instituted cash rewards for individuals providing information leading to the seizure of illegal firearms and explosives.
Acting Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon has directed senior DIGs, DIGs, Divisional Officers, and Directors to implement cash incentives in line with the nationwide 'Yukthiya' operation.
Police said that the confidentiality of informants will be protected.
The cash rewards are structured as follows:
- Rs. 250,000 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect with automatic firearms (T56, AK47, M16, SAR 80, T81).
- Rs. 250,000 for information leading to the recovery of an automatic firearm (T56, AK47, M16, SAR 80, T81) without a suspect.
- Rs. 250,000 for successful recovery of semi-automatic firearms (pistols, 84 S, SLR, Auto-loading shotguns).
- Rs. 150,000 for the arrest of a suspect in possession of a revolver-type firearm.
- Rs. 100,000 for the recovery of a revolver without suspects.
- Rs. 50,000 for the recovery of a repeater firearm.
- Rs. 15,000 for foreign-made firearms.
- Rs. 25,000 for recovery of a hand grenade with a suspect and Rs. 15,000 without a suspect.
- Rs. 15,000 cash reward for information on the recovery of a locally made firearm.
