Police probe threatening posters linked to underworld

Colombo, July 14 (Daily Mirror) - Police have launched an investigation into several threatening posters found in Maharagama and Dematagoda after the Athurugiriya shooting that left two people dead, including Club Wasantha.

On the day of Club Wasantha's final rites, a banner was found at the Godigamuwa cemetery in Maharagama, where the notorious underworld leader Madush, who died in a police shootout, was buried. The banner displayed Madush's photo with the message, "Our brother... We are sending one by one. Wait for us..." along with the letters "KPI," suggesting a possible link to Kanjipani Imran.

It was reported that Madush's mistress visited the cemetery and lit candles on the day Club Wasantha was killed. She had lived with Madush in Dubai following the death of Kalu Thushara in the Welikada prison riot on November 9, 2012.

Also, police found several posters near the home of Madush's mistress on Station Road, Maharagama. These posters contained messages such as "Everybody in the underworld prepare to go where Madush went" and "The same punishment for Kanjipani's family."

Similar threatening posters were also found on the gate of the Hiru Sewana apartment complex and a notice board near the Dematagoda railway yard.

Police have taken these posters into custody and launched investigations through the Maharagama and Dematagoda police stations.
