Police seek help to locate missing 16-year-old girl

Colombo, January 6 (Daily Mirror)- The Atampitiya Police are still continuing their investigation to locate a 16-year-old girl who has been missing since November of last year, police said.

The investigation was initiated following a complaint from the girl's mother, who reported that her daughter, Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Kavisha Dewmani, had been missing since November 3, 2024.

Kavisha Dewmani, who is fair-skinned and stands approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall, was last seen wearing a light green dress and had a minor cut on her left arm near the elbow.

The police have released a photograph of the missing girl and are requesting the public’s help in locating her.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Atampitiya OIC at 071-8591528 or the Atampitiya Police Station at 055-2295466.

Google and check how many thousands of children disappear every year in India . The answer is unbelievable and shocking. We are living only 22 miles from such a country. None of the international organizations like the UN nor any major Western countries have ever asked India about this existing horror. I am mentioning India in the context of this Sri Lankan girl missing is because there are number of illegal travel routes from India to Sri Lanka and back to India.

Your message gives me a shock actually, we think ae are very safe, but we are not, Sri Lanka would have been a real paradise if we were located farther from India. Hope this little girl returns home safely or she has already died peacefully.

1 year ago?? Was there no cctv in area? No dash cams in cars? No sniffer dogs to trace girl? No search operation? Just taking statements and asking for help on news only now? What are the police doing? Have they been trained properly? Or are they focusing on money making arrests?

Is the school principal suspecting the girl may have been trafficked to a county 22 km away through an illegal route he claims there are many? What happens in India is no excuse for not locating the lost child in Sri Lanka. India is 60 times larger than SL, their problems are proportionally large too. Don’t compare Sri Lanka with India.
