Colombo, May 12 (Daily Mirror) - Some people make popular statements from political platforms in the guise of continuing to develop and maintain the school lunch programme by spending Rs. 26 billion for 1.7 million children, covering all students in the primary grades in the country, said Education Minister Susil Premajayantha.

While participating as the chief guest at the inauguration of the new six-storied dormitory complex built earlier for the students of the German Tech Institute, Minister Premajayantha said the politicians who claim that all schoolchildren in the country will receive lunch should have conducted a practical numerical analysis before making such statements.

There are reputable companies leading catering services in the country that can provide valuable guidance. The government waited until their political objectives were achieved and to provide benefits to party members, prioritizing quick profits.

Minister, Please table the figures/amounts paid to suppliers in every district together with the description of the meals supplied. You just give 26 Billion spent and much of that must be wasted as commission to many go betweens'

Use the savings for the children, healthcare and transport facilities development. Out of 26 billions 20 billions will be contractors profit , cost is 6 billions and Food closer to expiry date or expired will be used to further reduce it. If auditor general does a proper audit , these will be his main findings.
