Colombo, Oct 09, (Daily) - In a move seen more as hysterical than having any purpose, two new stamps were released as souvenirs by the Sri Lanka Postal Department today with the faces of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Minister Vijitha Herath.
These stamps were released by the Department to celebrate the 150th World Postal Day.
While Sri Lanka state departments have always idolized politicians, it would have been more suitable if the souvenirs released carried more meaningful messages such as a tribute to the postal workers instead of the newly elected ministers.

Oh my God, just 2 weeks in office, they get stamps , what a record? I don't think anyone had the luxury of being honoured while living. I thought only those who did a meaningful service to the country are honoured long after they are gone. Doesn't this count as misuse of power or violation of election law.

NO BIG DEAL, THEY DO NOT BENEFIT FROM THEIR NAMES COMING UP ON A STAMP Wednesday, 09 October 2024 11:12 PM
NO IT IS NOT A MISUSE OF POWER, NONE OF THE TWO BENEFIT FROM THIS. ANOTHER PETTY MINDED COMMENT FROM TISSA.

See how keen NPP to relieve the downtrodden, starving people of about 7 M after making Sri Lanka possible, etc. They are keen to have more power to make sure that Sri Lanka is a Marxist country like North Korea as it is their priority rather than disbanding executive presidency as per the NPP representative mentioned on the media. Opposition won't oppose good things, at any cost. SL heading for disaster unlike the 100 day programme that he praised.

This is another mud campaign! The Sri Lanka Postal Department is offering citizens the chance to design personalised postal stamps featuring their own photographs . Someone has used photos of NPP figureheads to tarnish their good name. So sad to see that so many people jump into conclusions without checking facts. See the Daily Mirror news article below dailymirror.lk/breaking-news/Have-your-own-pic-on-postal-stamps-for-Rs-2-000/108-278368

These excuses are irrelevant. NPP cabinet took a decision not to feature any politicians in stamps last week . But this week, Vijitha and Harini accept stamps with their faces as souvenirs at a ceremony. They should have refused to accept them and question the officials as to why they didn't follow the guidance given by cabinet. As a person who voted AKD to power ,don't take these lame excuses. And ask them not to act like babies to justify wrong actions

They wouldnt have consented to this. Whoever is responsible should be sacked. The culture of glorifying politicians should end

If they did not approve that , they have no control on what is happening. These things are not done without the consent of the subject person.

These personalised stamps fall under the commemorative stamp category and are intended solely as souvenirs.

Even if its only a souvenir why do it at all? Isn't the postal department incurring a cost on this? Can we afford such nonsense?

This is only the beginning and you will see much more!! Some who voted for them have already concluded that this country is corrupt free and on track for success!! It's a matter of time!! We as Sri Lankan's got played out time and again (2015/2019) and we still have the habit of being radical. We will never learn!! Let's wait and see!!

The day we get Wijeweera's photo on a stamp will be the beginning of the end. This is deplorable. Even MR did not go so far. These decisions need to be approved by higher authorities than the PGM. This is either sabotage or PGM needs to be demoted.

True. Some people think these jvp and npp will do a miracle. From the start it self a flop compared to Sirisena and Gota. AKD said religious shows are a cunning method by politicians but now he had done more religious shows than Sirisena and Gota. Lol

This is hilarious. I don't know whether officials do this to win ministers to rerun their corrupt regimes. NPP must discipline (demote, temporary suspension) those officials to give examples to all other officials.

This kind of nonsense must stop ASAP. If they were asked I am sure they would never give permission for this. Investigate and sack the people behind this

Takes the cake! Usually, it’s a former HEAD OF STATE, national monument, sovereign ruler, explorer, national treasure etc. but a newly formed group of individuals who have assured us that they will be different? Perhaps there may be a sinister hand behind this. Let’s see and hope.

NPP has a good political culture Thursday, 10 October 2024 06:56 AM
Those who came to power promising new political culture are now beautifully and passionately delivering their promises! Well done!!! Just less than a month into power, NPP top guys are glorifying themselves. This is a gross violation of the election law. Because printing their pictures on stamps is direct political propaganda! Just imagine what would happen under an NPP led government. Aney, Sri Lankans! What a smart choice you have made!!!

This is certainly is not a good omen and a start. Is this a conspiracy of the postal dept. These two ministers should have rejected this. Vain glorification must be totally rejected.

I believe in the UK every stamp carries the portrait of the King/Queen. So why not here? After all we must pay tribute to the leaders of the" Dictatorship of the proletariat" AKA "Proletarian Democracy". (Marx, Engels and Lenin)

We don't want to see pictures of politicians on government property Thursday, 10 October 2024 08:00 AM
It's very likely this has happened without the approval of the PM and the minister. When you are presented with a commemorative at a ceremony you can't refuse to accept it. This is another example of how government officials trying to get into good books of politicians. AKD came to power to change this political culture and he should clearly instruct government officials to stop glorifying politicians. People should also stop blindly worshipping politicians. They should always scrutinize and criticize them whenever they do the wrong thing.

Nobody is going to gain anything from Putting their faces on stamps...its okay to do this. However it is more appropriate to put the face of a former Prime Minister or President who has done something great to the country. Knowing the mindset of the people in our country we must think how people will react before doing anything like this. After all, people are the one's who voted for you'll. It's not like being selected as Chairman or CEO for a private company.

Happy to see RANJAN back to politics coming for the NPP Backside door. Instead of the leader to be wasting time pardoning nought boys and girls.

Poor taste by these two politicians who came to serve the poor. Looks like power has already got them dizzy minded. Postal department surely you have better intelligence and forward thinking staff.
