Prasanna Ranaweera assaults porter at BIA
Colombo, May 16 (Daily Mirror) - State Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Prasanna Ranaweera, has been accused of assaulting a porter at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).
The altercation occurred as the minister accompanied his wife, who was scheduled to travel overseas today.
Sources told Daily Mirror that that the minister, along with his armed security personnel, attempted to enter the airport through the main entrance.
However, airport security officers intervened, informing the minister that his security detail could not bring firearms into the airport. This prompted an alleged verbal outburst from Ranaweera, who reportedly threatened several security officers.
The situation escalated when a porter assisting with the luggage of the minister's wife was allegedly assaulted. Witnesses claim the conflict arose after the porter objected to receiving only Rs. 750 instead of the standard Rs. 1,000 fee clearly posted at the airport.
In response, Ranaweera is said to have slapped the porter in the face before leaving the premises.

I am frequent flyer and I always get the service of porters paying them requested 1000.00 SLR. If I slap a porter on the face, police would arrest me immediately.Why not the minister???? This banana republic!!!!!!!

Most of the people who have migrated have a regret but they never show it and hide it. Many reasons are there - some don't get the proper job, others feel they are living isolated away from a city, some feel you have to travel long distances in a country like Australia whereas Sri Lanka it is all within reach, some feel too much rules and regulations unlike Sri Lanka, some don't like the weather and have to be on medicines.The only advantage is they tax the rich heavily and spend it on the people. Colour discrimination is there.

I also pay Rs 2,000 to the poor the poor porter as they carry the heavy luggage from the car and put it on a trolly. They do what you don't want to do and take it through to the counter. So why not pay them handsomely. MPs and Ministers are paid by taxpayers money so why cant they give back to the poor porters from whom they earn.

@Saman - You need still to know more about SL political culture. Currency printing was done before by contractor in an other country. But now it is done in SL. Thus the money were freely available during election to by MPs by Rajapakse regime.
