President Dissanayake offers condolences on passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh



President Anura Kumara Dissanayake extended his deepest condolences following the passing of former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

On behalf of the people of Sri Lanka and himself, President Dissanayake expressed sympathy to the Republic of India, Dr. Singh’s family, and his countless admirers around the world. 

His post highlighted Dr. Singh's significant contributions to both India and the global community, describing him as a visionary leader whose influence transcended national boundaries.

“Dr. Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 was marked by transformative policies that left a lasting impact on India’s development,” President Dissanayake wrote. 

He referenced key initiatives such as the Right to Education Act and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, which were foundational to Dr. Singh's unwavering commitment to equity and inclusivity.

The Sri Lankan President also acknowledged Dr. Singh’s role in fostering international collaboration, particularly through his leadership in the BRICS coalition and his instrumental work on the Indo-US nuclear agreement, calling him a tireless advocate for global diplomacy.
