President Ranil Wickremesinghe expressed his deep gratitude to the people of Sri Lanka for the mandate granted during the Presidential election held on 21 September.
While issuing a special release he acknowledged that, in accordance with the will of the people, the leadership of the country should now be passed on to President-elect Anura Dissanayake.
The statement as follows:

What a cruel disgusting statement. If it wasn't for him, who would have been there to govern this country during the last couple of years? What may have happened to people if he didn't come forward at a crucial time like that? Learn to show some respect man!

Mr. President, you have saved this nation from catastrophe, steering it away from the fate of countries like Somalia or Afghanistan. Your courage, wisdom, vision, and experience have been nothing short of remarkable, and they will never go unnoticed. As you rightly said, your leadership over the past two years will be remembered in history, etched in gold.

Being a Royalist, RW should have been gracious in congratulating the winner. Consider yourself lucky you got a chance to be President even though you were not elected. Everyone on earth has limited time so pass on the baton to younger winner whole heartedly , retire from politics, enjoy your life ,without being possessive and avarious.

The Greatest President Sri Lanka Had Sunday, 22 September 2024 10:04 PM
Dear Sir, thank you very much for your dedicated service to our beloved nation. Many people can't remember the socio-economic context you inherited in 2022. People were dying in queues to by essentials including gas and fuel, had 13 hours of power cuts, faced acute shortage of FOREX, hospitals ran without supplies, etc. You stepped in boldly and emancipated us from economic hardships. You adroitly negotiated with the IMF and other global financial institutions to inject FOREX into the economy. Tourist arrivals and foreign remittances surged gradually. The economy rebounded. It takes time for an economy to recover. Economic miracles can't be performed. Greece took 11 years to come out from its economic quagmire. But you revived our economy in just two years. I write with a heavy heart. If you did this in another country, people would have venerated you and re-elected with a landslide. Alas, we are such an ungrateful nation. But Sri Lankans will cry for you in another 8-12 months.

Dean Ranil, as informed, you are now "Hitapu". The people that will show gratitude are not the people of Sri Lanka but the two teams of staffs in the President's Office. One of them are the official staff of the President's Office. About 1000 government employees are working on that staff. The other staff is the President's staff. There are about 100 people there. All of them are appointed by the President. These people who are loyal, trustworthy and obedient to you who are political appointees. The only duty assigned to this staff is to inflate the image of the President. The salaries and allowances and perks are paid from public money. We learned that one person in this team is Chandra Shafter who is 95 years old.

Though I didn’t vote for you due to your policy allocation towards education, I still believe you should have won. But needless to say, we as a country have a tendency to choose someone based on hopes and beliefs rather than facts and figures. So, I guess the less we spend on education, the more we think from our hearts than our brains. As you said, given the short period, what you have achieved is remarkable, and hats off to you for coming forward and taking charge when others hid for their personal gains.

This is not the end but a new beginning to RW Monday, 23 September 2024 07:26 AM
@DillonDP - Well said. I agree with you. There are two things. Economics based on principles and economics based on opinion. As you have correctly stated, when a nation is less educated, majority of the people believe in politicians who propound economics based on opinion and suffer for eternity. When an economy is down, it takes years to recover. But Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe did the impossible. in 2022, when his house was on fire, he ignored all that and went on to save the nation. Mr. Wickremasinghe had to work with the parliament composition at that time. He invited all parties to join hand with him. But only about 135 MPs extended the support. So, he had to work with them, though corrupt or not, to initiate the economic recovery process. People, what else he could have done? Call for elections? Were we in a state to have an election when the economy was in tatters and people dying in long queues? Please THINK! In another nation, RW would have been worshipped.

This election was long overdue. You prolonged it solely for your greed to be seated in that chair. You were neither elected by the people nor did the people want you. Yep, you did contribute to the re-stabilisation of the economy but your motives were never sincere. Finally, I sincerely hope your involvement with the central bank fraud and other controversies will be investigated sooner rather than later.

You are not an elected man in any way! Not to the parliament, not came through the list but squeeze through the by breaking the law! The first unlawful thing you did was to appoint Pagapala who sacked by the Gon GoRa. Many people lost confidence on you since then! Then embrace Kappam Thunga, Kabarananda, Pimpi Dinesh who blamed as Hora in the parliament! How can people trust any more! No time to make a child (still not too old - some people do it at 90 - try with another lady) and have a good family life!

Ranil should have left politics when the country's people kicked him out of the parliament. But his "walawwe hamu" mentality did not allow it. So he not only got a slap from Anura, but he also got a kick on the back. Anura and Sajith have proved that they have the major support of the voters. Even if they are from opposite parties, most of their platform show common proposals. First, these two should work together to deliver common platforms to the voters and be honourable.

You being honest is not enough, you have been covering all the mafias under your cover. Have you ever thought why people did not like you. What you have done is a good bank manager job and protected the Mafias again . So no one has trust and your Horoscope says the same. Enjoy retirement and see you on a cruise.

We salute to our honorable outgoing President at this point of time but not permanently. We as Sri Lankans failed to show gratitude for his services and lifting us from the mere dust. Also, I found the SP should have joined hands with RW to make it to absolute majority with the first count. SP didn't respect either join hands with UNP camp or its leader as he was with his ego, pride at its best. However, this is politics, and the game may change if the promises made by AKD is not kept. The good change is evident that the voters have changed their traditional approach during this election. Good luck Sri Lanka keep reminding the incoming president of his promises before he goes into deep sleep or memory loss.

Mr.President Ranil Wickramasinghe! You were the leader needed at a crucial time. You did a great job in rescuing the nation, while others avoided and ran away from responsibility. History will never forget the despicable treatment given to Army Commander Sarath Fonseka by Mahinda, for daring to challenge him in election. But here we find you wishing good luck to Anura. This shows class but not appreciated by some.

He must be commended for steering the ship in troubled waters, but has he really steered it out we will know later. I hate when people talk about how inflation has been bought down to single digits as this is not true if you compare with 2021, and the existing USD to SLRs at the time. What he should do as the elder statesman is to support the new government and leave the past be and start a new. If he had done so much good he wouldnt have been third in the race. If you say he is not a good communicator you are wrong, he is a good communicator but doesnt know what to talk and takes everything lightly like a joke, that was his problem.

Actions and results speak louder..Sri Lankans voting based may have a 80-90% literacy, but they seriously lack socio economic intelligence. They blame Ranil for miss handling of bonds, more than half of them doesn't even know what really happen or house government bonds or Treasury bills work. People complain, Ranil can't win but isn't that people's responsibility select the right candidate for the job? Because that's their future they are gambling with. Go look at metrics, it's not an easy task to meet imf's benchmarks. Also Google and hear what others leaders say about what Ranil has done to get country out of the colossal failure.

RW’s intelligence and bravery truly shine, especially in contrast to JR. It’s natural for frustration with party politics to cloud our appreciation for individual leaders. Supporting AKD could bring fresh perspectives and much-needed confidence, provided he fulfills his promises. Establishing strong, principled leadership is crucial for effective governance in the long run. It’s worth acknowledging that one positive step RW took was stabilizing the economy after the meltdown. Now, we stand at the threshold of a new beginning. Let’s see if the new government can set a clear direction and inspire every citizen to contribute to the vital task of rebuilding our future.

Ranil let me get this straight, the drama and how you tried to hoodwink the nation by saying in all your meetings if you were not elected the nation will see the Gas Cylinder burst and the nation will have to go back to the early days of 2022. Tell me one thing you boast of yourself bringing back the economy from where it was as you should be shamed of saying so as you and the Rajapaksa's put this lovely country into bankrupt and you have to be accountable for the catastrophe and blunders made and the nation to face this dilemma. Just take a cool nap as the nation cannot be fooled all the time and the verdict was given on the 22nd of September 2024.
