President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon as the acting Inspector-General of Police.
According to sources, he has been appointed for a period of three months.

It is unbelievable that Ranil has appointed a crook and criminal as the highest police officer in this country, even if it is only for 3 months. What does it mean? The indirect message is "I/We don't care about the public/majority opinions/protests". There is no fear of loosing in the next election. Probably the machinery is already in place to rigg the election. There are players external to SL who are there to advise/facilitate. If that happens imagine the scale of social unrest that could befall on SL if the elections are held (rigged) or indefinitely postponed (despite the proclamation of elections in 2025). The scenario looks scary.
