President congratulates Sri Lanka women’s team on Asia Cup victory

President Ranil Wickremesinghe extended his heartfelt congratulations to Chamari Athapaththu and the Sri Lanka Women's Cricket Team on their historic Asia Cup win.

The President lauded their achievement: "Your unbeaten run is a testament to your talent, dedication and teamwork. You have made our nation proud!" according to the Presidential Media Division (PMD).

The President's commendation follows the team's remarkable victory over India, securing their first-ever Women's Asia Cup title.

Exceptional team performance by the women’s team. They had the skill, the maturity, the self-belief, and the nerves of steel to handle the pressure to concur what many thought was impossible. They actually remind me of 1996 world cup winning team. Fearless. There is a real steel about them. From the moment chamari walked into bat you can see she wanted this throphy. There body language is brilliant. Getting the crowd behind. Wanting to win at all cost. And what a finish. It is not like let's take singles and be careful. Nope it's more like let's finish them once they are down. Really our men's team should watch them play. This isn't about just winning the throphy. But how they did that.
