President directs to provide Rs. 500,000 to families of accident victims

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has directed to provide financial assistance of Rs. 500,000 to the families of the victims of the tragic accident this morning.

President's Secretary Saman Ekanayaka has directed the Ministry of Transport and the Sri Lanka Transport Board to provide financial assistance of Rs. 500,000 to the families of the victims.

Thank you, Mr. President. In Western terms, we value their lives at $1700. However, we can go further, especially if any victims have children. It's challenging for their immediate relatives and families to take care of the victims' children, including their education and foster care needs. Let's establish a program to support them until they become adults.

This is a good move, if any wage earners among the victims, employment should be given to their sons/daughters, if any, in case no children, spouse/sister/brother should be given to sustain their families.
