President disappointed with performance? Goes for cabinet reshuffle

Following a Cabinet reshuffle this morning, Mahinda Amaraweera was appointed as the Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister and Keheliya Rambukwella as the Environment Minister a short while ago.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana was appointed as the Minister of Health in addition to his portfolio as Minister of Industries while Ranjith Siyambalapitiya was appointed as the Non-Cabinet Minister of Plantation Enterprises apart from his post as State Minister of Finance.

The President's Media Division (PMD) said these appointments were made at the Presidential Secretariat.

Removing Keheliya from Health portfolio indicates that President lost confidence in him despite winning parliamentary no confidence motion. If Keheliya has a spine, he shouldn't have accepted the new portfolio. Thirst for ministerial position.

There is just no point in reshuffeling the cabinet. The same people who can't run one Ministry are transferred to another Ministry. Those Ministers who have disappointing performance should be sacked immediately and replaced with proper capable people , if they can be found at all within the 225 '' incapable '' persons who are called Members of Parliament. The biggest mistake was in appointing them in the first place, which means that the person appointing is himself not capable of doing the job.

Old wines in new bottles. Changing the minister of health itself will not bring back the stolen billions by medicine and illegal purchases. Who will account for this when the country is in this bad situation.

Health is an extremely difficulty ministry to handle.with extreme budget financial allocation not possible to handle this ministry any govt.e.g taking 1 ward 1 floor with patients say minimum 200 patients to cure (but another 100 or more waiting out side the room) the cost -medicine per day electricity, water bill and 3 times meal.!!!To be fair Mr.Rambukwella did a good job like others before.My thinking Mr.Nimal Siripala was the best. Any deaths or lack of medicine the Minister gets the blame!! That is the way in this Ministry.

Dr. Ramesh Pathirana will do a fair job for Health Ministry, and we welcome him, but Rambukwella should have been sent to the back bench without any portfolios.

When one cannot perform well in a given area why give him a new area to manage when there are more capable people in Parliament. Further we are talking about reducing the cabinet. Then why not manage with a Cabinet of 20
