Colombo, August 18 (Daily Mirror)- President Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasised the importance of strengthening economic cooperation and regional integration from Japan to India, with a special focus on deepening ties with India.

The President made this remark while addressing the Head of State Session of the 3rd Voice of Global South Summit, held under the theme "An Empowered Global South for a Sustainable Future," the President's Media Division (PMD) said.

president is gambling in this election . It is Ok as a president he can use all government apparatus to win this election. He is right in some of his arguments and yet, will people of this country vote for him? he is gambling in the second preference votes. He expect all voters for Sajith will give him their second preference votes to make him the winner. I think Sajith voters must be unwise people to do this. I do not think and Ranil supporters will vote for Sajith.. if they do it, it more likely Sajith will be the winners. if Sajith and Ranil supporters do not give their second preference vote for any one., AKD will be the winner as support stands now.

Ranil only arranged the past loan payments to be postponed to 2027 only. Any economist could have done it with IMF. He’s not interested in curtailing corruption and no control of his cabinet. Look at the recent immigration system fiasco! If only Ranil instructs Bribery Officers to start detail investigations on past and present cases, people might have faith in him. He has never ever commented on these corruption and unresolved murder cases ever since taking office. Obliviously he’s under the control of the previous regime and hands tied to them. So how to move the country forward with new initiatives and policies to benefit the population in large? He’s only there to ensure certain individuals interest are taken care and he continues to gets his presidential perks and privileges.

All voters should mark a second preference. Voters who give their 1st preference to either Sajith or Ranil should mark their second preference for Battaramulle Seelaratana, Namal or any other who are nowhere near to presidency. If they do not mark a second preference, there is a risk that many JVP fans and former Pohottu extremists on election duty have a chance to mark it for Anura.
