President inaugurates “Times School of Higher Education”

Colombo, Sep 12 (Daily Mirror) - President Ranil Wickremesinghe attended the inauguration of the “Times School of Higher Education,” a new institution established in collaboration with three international universities.

The ceremony took place at the Galle Face Hotel.

The Times School of Higher Education offers programmes in diverse subject areas leading to the award of Certificates, Diplomas, Higher Diplomas, Bachelors Degrees and Post Graduate Degrees.

Some of these programmes are conducted in collaboration with foreign Universities. In addition, TSHE provides the opportunity for interested persons to follow programmes authorized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka and TQUK.

The Digital Academy of TSHE continues its commitment to offering Continuous Professional Development courses, primarily through online methods, often in partnership with well-established online digital educational platforms.

Why don't we get the existing universities in country and do the same thing with this money? This news is discouraging and demoralizing to the brilliant academics in those universities yearning for money and support. They can create their own research and higher education programs with that money. It is not the number of institutions, and number new printers and equipment that matter. It is how to get the stand-still research community in the universities encouraged to create new programs and supplement their existing projects currently running without funds.

Good sentiment but nowadays it is the money that drives everything and our public universities don't make a profit for anyone so unlikely that any government will bother to put much money into them . But if some creative genius thought up a scheme to actually get public universities to generate some money, you can bet many ministers and politicians will be happy to assist. Until then the Haves will get a good foreign-based education from institutes such as this and where the qualifications are recognized and the Have-Nots will have to manage with highly-competitive but mediocre tertiary education that is not very much recognized elsewhere.

Judging from their homepage, seems they only have foreign students. There seems to be no information on the Board of Governors, Administration or Teaching Staff. I would expect that if you scratch the surface of this institution, there will be a good amount of political "goodwill", backing and involvement. Can't spit at profit.

I have noted the Sanitary Plumbing and Draining system in Sri Lankan Buildings does not conform to International Standards. The Department of Vocational Institute in Consultation with the Water and Sanitation Board must review the the existing plumbing system and offer a Certified Course to become a Licensed Plumber and Drainer to practice. The Australian Standards Plumbing Code in liaison with the authority is beneficial for reciprocity. The German Institute must pursue this option. A faulty plumbing system could pollute the Towns Water Supply.
