President instructs to extend retirement age for doctors to 63 till end 2024



President Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed the Health Minister and officials to extend the retirement age for doctors to 63 years till the end of 2024 and for other special cases as per the requirement of the Health Ministry, the President's Media Division (PMD) said.

The President has made the instruction based on a report submitted by the Cabinet-appointed sub-committee.

Meanwhile, the President, during a meeting to discuss issues pertaining to the health sector, said the Health Ministry must ensure there is no delay in people getting medicinal drugs and transparency is required for all available drugs in Sri Lanka. 

He said websites run by the Health Ministry must give the total amount of drugs available and the amount available in each hospital daily. 

The networking system will enable the exchange of drugs among hospitals.
