President to swear in a few more Cabinet ministers
President Ranil Wickremesinghe will appoint a few more Cabinet ministers during the budget period, a top source said. The president can increase the size of the Cabinet to 30 according to the Constitution. Earlier, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) requested the president to swear in the remaining number of ministers to run the government. According to the source, SLPP MPS Pavithra Wanniarachchi, C.B. Ratnayake and S.M. Chandrasena are tipped to get ministerial posts. Besides, MP Jeewan Thondaman of the Ceylon Workers’ Congress and Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) MP Duminda Dissanayake will be included in the new Cabinet. It is learnt that one or two members elected to Parliament on the ticket of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will be appointed to the Cabinet.(Kelum Bandara)

Mr. President, do you have a real vision for this country, other than drawing the lifeblood out of the few hard working people, to support the ego of a few politicians? Clearly say what this vision is, and how these appointments will deliver this vision with key measures that can be reviewed and monitored by the countrymen. Don't forget that you and your cohorts are accountable to the public for all that you do, in the name of national development. At present, you haven't done much, to ease the burden and the the little bit of trust people had in you, is quickly diminishing.

Budget will be defeated definitely and thereafter Parliament will be dissolved and must go for Parliamentary elections.Do we need a Government which shoulders all taxes on people's back and people are unable to survive. The ones who destroyed the economy of SL and trying to reappoint them is ludicrous

For a small country like Sri Lanka, 30 cabinets ministers required? In a large and heavily populated country like India its around 30 cabinet ministers.

Australia has 30 cabinet ministers and 13 Deputy Ministers with the same population but a per capita 10 times more and is a developed nation. Sri Lanka has 20 ministers, 38 Deputy Ministers and we want to have more ministers when we are very poor country with people suffering a lot. Can anyone take it from this point onwards

The only way Sri Lanka can turn around is to make a constitutional decision not permitting any Sinhalese to hold positions of Authority such as President, PM, AG, CJ, IGP, DIG's, Head's of Armed Forces, Chairman / Heads of State Institutions etc and such posts need to be by qualified minorities. Wherever a Sinhalese is appointed, abuse and corruption is obvious. Proof in Sri Lanka.

Ranil has to please the 134 Mattayas who elected him as President by appointing them to various positions where they can make money.Some of the positions are Ministers and State Ministers.For their upkeep funds have to be created and inevitably the rest of the population in the country have to be taxed both directly and indirectly.This is the scenario people have to understand.

Usually Governments around the world govern for the people, majority in government will govern for themselves and masses last. Time to force a general election and lets get a party that will govern for the people and the less fortunate. Ranil - Why do Sri Lanka with just 22 million people need a larger cabinet than other countries? Is it because it is poorer, richer or developing than others? One time SL was in the Guinness book of records for this! As long as the money printer is working with available paper and the dyes, you can churn out notes to pay.
