President urges citizens not to leave country amid digital progress
Colombo, September 4 (Daily Mirror) - President Ranil Wickremesinghe urged citizens of Sri Lanka not to rush to leave the country and said that the situation is improving and the country is progressing towards digitalisation.
He said this while speaking as the Presidential candidate at a recent forum held with professionals in Colombo.
In response to a question from a professional about the long queues at the Immigration and Emigration Department, he said that the new e-passport will be available in two weeks.
The President apologised for the issues raised at the Immigration Department and explained that the government is transitioning from conventional passports to e-passports.
He acknowledged delays in the procurement process and took responsibility on behalf of the government.
Despite facing criticism for the current passport shortage, the President assured that by October, everyone will have their e-passports, and the issue will be resolved.
The department is working to issue more passports within the next two weeks, and the President emphasised that the e-passport will be more affordable than the current one.
He also asked the public to be patient as the government advances to the next stage of digitalisation.

Those who left will come when you stop own corruption like bond scam and VFS scam etc. Also respect for law from you by appointing an acting IGP and not critisising or not adhering to SC judgements. Your dictatorial attitude formerly in the UNP and now in the country deters return of Sri Lankans. Your wastage of govt resources by having over 80 stooges in your Secretariat two of whom are reported in the Panama Papers, is another reason.

You and your people locally and internationally gave big AI pora talk and gave a 2/3rd majority, celebrated and were happy - API THAMA HONTHATAMA KALE and bankrupted the nation. Even though you guys don’t like me, finally I came forward for the sake of the country and did what I could weather you like or not and fixed things up with the best of ability. Ranil didn't pick the cabinet that he had to work with, he says so in this clip. But what a set of young, hardworking and efficient group that they turned out to be under him, as proven. It shows that still, there is hope, and Sri Lankans can.

I don't think you know how the government works. He has no choice but to work with the team he has because the lot that most of the country voted for (probably you included) holds a majority in parliament. He mentioned this in the interview, you need to work with the team you have. You guys need to educate yourself before you open your mouth

Ranil boasted that he got rid of the fuel, gas, bread queues. The present passport queue is at least 2 km long. This is lack of proper intelligent planning. How can a person who cannot provide passports to those who need handle the other issues that surface from time to time. Ranil must retire and join an Elders Home his class mate Dinesh

I think you should join a corporate to understand what transition of manual to digitised technology is like. Its not something you can do within a week. Especially when the manual way cannot be discontinued instantly because without it operations stop. If they orders extra old passports to last for a month or two, it will be priced high since a small amount i being purchased. Then people will scream corruption.

Lots of policies passed in the past few weeks in parliament in preparation for elections. But last few years, endless misery people endured. All the while there were endless protests on these issues but were brutally brushed off with some injuries by the security forces which were under Ranli’s instructions. Suddenly funds are available from who knows where. Very strong possibility after elections, will say there were some miscommunications on available funds to proceed with elections promises and need to postpone them. THEIR PRIORITY NOW IS TO STAY IN POWER, CONTROL AVAILABLE AND FUTURE FUNDS. ALSO, WITH NO INTERFERENCE AND INVESTIGATIONS ON ALL THE CORRUPT AND MALPRACTICES THAT HAVE TAKEN PLACE OVER THE YEARS, THEY CAN PROCEED FOR ANOTHER 5 YEARS. IF THE OPPOSITION IS VOTED IN, THEY WILL DEFINITELY START THESE INVESTIGATIONS SO AS TO SALVAGE WHATEVER FUNDS AVAILABLE TO GIVE IT BACK TO THE COUNTRY. The unresolved Murders and Easter Bombings cases TOO IS PRIORITY FOR INVESTIGATIONS.

A citizen cant even get a passport under Ranil let alone leave the country! Waiting for this guy`s promise of digital progress is just like his pledge for a developed country in 2048, a Smart country some day in future or simply his cooked up story of free wifi for all! All those may happen only once he is no more on earth. Quick riddance is of this ancient dinosaur along with his deceptive statements is the only option.

Our new president Namal Rajapaksa has more vibrant plan to enhance digitally with the help from China to develop all other sectors in Sri Lanka. The people question only thing is, that where will RANIL go after the defeat of the Election? Hope, it will be adding more defeat record, a loser of more than 80 elections, with a GUINNESS book of record.
