Presidential Election campaign ends midnight today

Colombo, September 18 (Daily Mirror) - As the campaign period for the upcoming Presidential Election will end tonight (18) at midnight, those engaging in illegal campaigning after the given deadline could face arrest and legal action, the Election Commission warned.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake, said “Any individual or group continuing to canvass or promote candidates after the given deadline would be in violation of the election law.”

According to Ratnayake, strict regulations are in place to ensure a fair and free election process.

“Once the campaign period concludes, no further public rallies, distribution of promotional materials, or door-to-door canvassing will be allowed. The police have been adviced to take action against any campaigning after the said period,” he added.

Hope the voters will be serious this time to get in a a candidate who has a backbone and backing of Professionals. The current and past regimes has proven they can’t run the country efficiently, always having corruption issues and not planning properly development strategies for the people and country. Just look at the Railway network used by the Millions daily says a lot of the type of politicians the country is having. Still using British era equipment and NOT replacing or Upgrading the infrastructure regularly. They built “White Elephant Projects” in distance places without planning for the potential impact of these projects mainly to get commissions. See how these officials suddenly living the luxurious lifestyle these recent years says a lot about their attitude towards the general population. IF THESE KINDS OF SO CALLED POLITICIANS ARE VOTED BACK AGAIN, DEFINITELY NO MORE HOPE OF BETTER DAYS IN SL!

Need To STOP intimidation, corruption, violence and malpractices Wednesday, 18 September 2024 07:23 AM

There was no outcome or comment from SJB’s Leadership of the recent assault done by their grassroots members on a shop proprietor. If this is the way SJB is moving forward, don’t think the average citizen will stay behind them. All forms of intimidation, corruption, violence and malpractices should not be allowed in the next leadership. Hoping the voters will agree on this issue for and vote for a party being led by professionals which stands for development and corruption free.

If this one minor incident worries you so much as to sway your vote, how much moved should you be for the casualties of 1971 and 1988-89 massacres of scores of others, some like Stanley Wijesundera Premakeerthi Alwis Gladys Jayawardena Vijaya Kumaratunga to name a few.

That’s in the past! Look forward and move on. So all what’s happening now and the last few years is acceptable with you and your flock ? Either you are part of this regime or gaining someway! Anyways, people your generation has smaller numbers in voter base and the younger generation will maturely vote accordingly.
