Presidential pardon for 440 prisoners on Poson day

A total of 440 prisoners are to be released tomorrow (03) on a presidential pardon in line with the Poson Poya Day, Prisons spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said.

He said prisoners from every prison in the country will be released under this special presidential pardon.

Accordingly, 434 male prisoners and six female prisoners will be released under the powers vested with the President under Article 34 of the Constitution.

Not just 440 but use your common sense and release all sick people on jail why do you spend public money to look after them ..90% of then are serving sentences for minors offence and they are enjoying life in jail because they are fed by public money ..what is wrong with this legal system to make them live like this on public money ..Judges and lawyers want their jobs that is why don't care this ..create open jail as in some European countries and train them on jobs .

pardon powers needs to be handed over to a pardon commission. presidential pardon was not meant to be a dansal for vesak and poson.

What about Tamil prisoners suffering the prison for years and years Will the Sinhalese President release all of them just to Thank India very specially the chief Minister of Tamil Nadu who sent and has been sending humanitarian foods to Sinhalese people
