Colombo. July 26 (Daily Mirror) - The All Ceylon Bakery Owners' Association (ACBOA) has decided to reduce the price of a 450-gram loaf of bread and other bakery items by Rs. 10 with effect from midnight today.

ACBOA Chairman N.K. Jayawardana told the Daily Mirror that the decision was taken following the request by Trade, Commerce and Food Security Minister Nalin Fernando to reduce the bread prices within two days.

The Minister earlier said the decision was taken following a discussion with the bakery owners last Friday (19) regarding the price reduction of bread and other bakery items.

However, the ACBOA Chairman requested the association members to reduce the prices of other bakery products as much as they can.

People should be awared that this and other items and its reductions are valid during elections days, about only one to two months period.

What kind of country is this where the government can determine how much a loaf of bread costs? Completely irrational and absurd. In a free market economy, supply, demand, willingness to buy and competition determine the price. Interfering with the pricing of a free market has always proven to be negative. In this case, it is another measure with which Ranil wants to save his already lost power.

@Sokrates - Ranil has nothing to do with the price of bread, the representations has been made by consumers who noticed the price decrease in flour.
