Colombo, Jan. 21 (Daily Mirror)- The price of an imported egg was increased by Rs. 8 from today due to the increase in VAT and other taxes, Trade, Commerce and Food Security Minister Nalin Fernando said.

He told reporters that an imported egg will now be sold at Rs. 43 each at all Sathosa outlets from today.

Develop countries don't tax on food items that consume daily basis and essentials jacking up prices adding taxes and taxes create unafotabilty poverty starvation under nourishment and jeopardize peoples health well beaing its about time the politicians find proper solutions for tax purposes majority citizens are poor families you find many other way to tax Rather taxing the most essentials for peoples daily life and not protecting the country citizens which should be a number one priority very sad the way this fellows operate....given no thought feelings for others

Yes eggs were their at Sathosa for Rs.35/- Good effort by Govt.It will be Rs.43/- In the retail price today egg price 45, 46,47,48 etc.Prices have come down. With VAt increase retail prices will go up by Rs.8 or more???

Minister nalin Fernando has not yet commenced to lay eggs. Production of eggs must be a local Industry and the bus Conductor Amaraweera promised that last year the ministry will meet the required production. But, he appears to be still hatching eggs.

All SL ministers want to import ... Never hear anyone say lets produce or grow it here..Government need to give the locals farmers incentives to start Chicken , Goat, vegetables etc,etc so that country does not import anything and save all the money going out. This is what happens when we have uneducated ,Street level Politicians in our country..Public needs to understand , needs to be taught before the next elections...It is they the middle
