Prices of goods, services must reduce after fuel revision

Colombo, September 1 (Daily Mirror - In line with yesterday's (August 31) fuel price revision, the prices of all goods and services should decrease from tonight, National Movement for Consumer Rights Protection (NMCRP) Chairman Ranjith Vithanage said.

Addressing the media, he said that the prices of a litre of diesel and petrol were reduced as of last night, following the government's pricing formula.

As a result, the price of a cup of plain tea should be reduced by Rs.10, a packet of kottu by Rs. 20, and egg rotti as well. He also said that the price of a packet of lunch should be lowered immediately.

This reduction is intended to benefit consumers, so all traders must take steps to reduce prices and pass on these savings to their customers, Vithanage said.

"It is time for the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) to step in and take action against any traders who fail to provide this concession to the consumers," he said.

You could say. But this is hardly any reduction and the vendors will not pass it on to the consumer. In Pettah in a small by way a hotel a cup of tea is sold at Rs.120. Who is to look into these prices. So you sit in your office and demand that the prices should be reduced no one adheres to it.

at the whiff of an int'l price increase our capitalist traders if not mafia big and small registered or unregistered are quick to increase prices in double hundreds and all types of excuses are given and reduced by a mere Rs 10/-. Even in the case of private bus transport the owners threatened to stop all services if an increase in fares was not allowed
