PARLIAMENT (Daily Mirror)- The principal of the Rambukpitiya Maha Vidyalaya in Nawalapitiya has been transferred to the Gampola Zonal Education Office with immediate effect following the incident where he had allegedly forced some students to eat polythene and newspapers, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said today.

He told Parliament that an investigation has been launched by the Pasbage Zonal Education Director into the incident.

The Minister said the principal was transferred to facilitate the ongoing investigations.

This Susil was Minister even when I was in school, he needs to get tough, how on earth can you transfer him when he has done something like this, he should be arrested, not transferred. We groom a generation of subservient people because we are not tough on things like this There needs to be a code of conduct, nobody is above that, rules for both teachers and students. Just like if a student breaches this code, he/ she should be expelled. Applicable to Universities also.
