Probe commenced over death of three-year-old boy at LRH

The Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital has commenced an investigation into the death of a three-year-old boy who died following a kidney operation at the LRH last week.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, LRH Director Dr. G. Wijesuriya said, “The Health Ministry will conduct a detailed inquiry following the conclusion of the internal probe by the LRH.”

The Director also noted that the boy had undergone the surgery in December, 2022 and had died due to an infection of a germ.

Meanwhile, the Government Medical Officers' Association has also demanded an impartial inquiry into the death as it raises serious concerns over the doctors’ negligence. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

It was reported that the said doctor has removed both kidneys of the patient. The boy had suffered for 4 days without any kidney. What is this man? A butcher?

I have no faith in this so-called probe. I very well know how all these probes are conducted in Sri Lanka. The team conducting the probe would write their final report even before the commencement of hearings. It was the Director of the LRH who admitted that even the right kidney had been removed by mistake. Now these guys are making a futile attempt to say that the poor boy died due to an infection.

Let's not just blame the doctor. he wouldn't just run away cos of this.you all r just acting like typical sri lankans making a fuss of everything without looking deep into it.The kid was gonna die anyway even if the surgery hadn't happened and before it was done scans were taken and they proved that there was another kidney but when the doc removed the damaged one the other one was stuck with it so there was nothing he could have done. he had to rely on the scan and don't make this a big thing just cos our country hasn't had anything interesting happening in the past few months so without being pit bulls i think everyone should calm down and just know in surgery people die .just don't blame the doctor and the team. All r behaving like a bunch of idiots every single person in the protests.

It was siad that the doctor removed both kidneys and took them along which I think is not correct. There is a team of doctors who perform surgeries. However a probe is necessary but it has to be impartial.

Quality of life has fast deteriorated in Sri Lanka. It us killing field, dengue, low quality medicines, lack of doctors, doctor negligence, shootings , vehicle accidents, who really wants to be in this lawless country?
